The first show — Muskegon 2005
Looking back, there’s a lot that I didn’t know when I first started out on the circuit. i got into the Muskegon show by accident, after the deadline, without a booth shot, just by calling the promoter a few days after the announced deadline had passed. We got lucky and had an open space next to our booth, so we were able to display on the side wall just as if we had a corner booth! And we took Third Place in the show overall! Not bad for a rookie.
One of the things I learned from that first show is that there are lots of other people just starting out and lots of people willing to share their experiences with you. Online, it’s the same way. There are a number of good sites that cater to the artist, and let them post show experiences online. Among them:
Sunshine Artist magazine
Artshowphoto.com
Art Fair Sourcebook
NAIA-artists.org
